HW due 5/18: Waiting for Godot and PBA

1. Waiting for Godot–First off, great job today! Read and annotate up to the bottom of p. 15. One final time (last text and all), I challenge you to approach this text with maturity and a keen literary eye in search of thematic understanding…Pay attention to the little things…You will have to read quite closely to discern any meaning…THIS WILL BE YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE OF THE YEAR! 🙂

2. PBA Prep–You should choose your two texts for this comparative essay. What is the frame of reference? What are the grounds for comparison? (Remember, the grounds for comparison would be the similarities/differences you see in the author’s treatment of your frame of reference.

HW due 5/16: PBA Info and Handouts

1. PBA–You will write a comparative essay/critical lens essay for your PBA. You may choose from TWO of the following texts:

  • A Rose for Emily
  • The Minister’s Black Veil
  • Where Are You Going…
  • The Bell Jar
  • 1984
  • Slaughterhouse Five
  • Siddhartha
  • The Alchemist
  • The Death of Ivan Ilyich
  • No Exit
  • Waiting for Godot
  • Existentialism is a Humanism*

* Only if you choose to use this text as a critical lens. Meaning, you must still choose two primary texts (i.e. Slaughterhouse Five and Siddhartha) and use Existentialism is a Humanism as a critical lens through which you make your comparison. You should only choose this option if you have control of Sartre’s essay.

Due Dates:

  • Evidence–May 31
  • Thesis–June 2 (C) June 3 (A)
  • First Draft–June 7
  • Second Draft–June 9 (C) June 10 (A)

2. How to Write a Comparative Analysis–Print this out, Read it, and put it in your binder.
