1. Reading–Mad Girl’s Love Song and Lady Lazarus by Plath.

2. (Due 3/8) Confessional Poem–Confessional Poetry–The linked reading is quite brief, yet gives us a sense of the nature of confessional poetry.

Requirements:

  • Honest and Authentic
  • Free verse is fine
  • You must use stanzaic form
  • Pay attention to sound as you write
  • You must employ “painterly language” and literary devices (i.e. vivid imagery, metaphor, symbolism, motifs, etc)
  • Write from the inside out

Due 3/6: Between the World and Me

1. Between the World and Me–Read and annotate up to p. 129.

2. Essay Grading–Based upon the attached rubric, grade the essay. Be meticulous and constructive in your feedback; mark the essay as I mark yours. Be cognizant of the rubric as you mark the essay. Max score of 24 (6 categories with a max score of 4 in each category). I will collect and grade your evaluation of this essay. FINAL BODY PARAGRAPH–MARKING IS OPTIONAL! However, you must read it to discern development of argument across the essay. 

Due 3/6: The Myth of Sisyphus

1.  Read and annotate The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus in the Pack.
2. Over the weekendprint out, read and annotate the following sections on Albert Camus:

  • Suicide, Absurdity, and Happiness: The Myth of Sisyphus (3.1-3.4)

3. (Due 3/7) Precis–The Meaning of Suffering

4. The Stranger–If you would like to buy your own copy, buy this one.

Due 3/2: Between the World and Me

1. (Due 3/3 for 10B) Between the World and Me–Read and annotate up to p. 108. 10H, you should have the poem with you again tomorrow.

2. Self-Interrogation–Five questions due Thursday (Friday for 10B). Live the questions; perhaps you always have been.
