1. Print out and annotate the following two poems. Focus your annotations on sound and theme!

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas

2. Tongue Twister–Get funky with alliteration, assonance, and consonance and create your own Tongue Twister. Let’s have fun with this!

3. Six Word Poem/Story–finalize your six word poem/story! Please print these neatly on any size paper up to 8×11! NEATLY! I would like to post these, so feel free to get funky creative in presentation!

4. Closely review the poetic terms and poetry fundamentals handouts!!!

HW12C due 2/5: Registration and More

PLEASE, IF POSSIBLE, BRING IN A REAM OF COPY PAPER! I WOULD BE QUITE GRATEFUL…

1. Tonight you should register for the class website, Blackboarddreams.com. To do this, you must scroll to the bottom of the homepage and click “Register.” Your username should be your Full Name (First and Last).  Be sure to register by midnight tonight. I will shut down registration at that point. 

2. A Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow–Read and annotate the poem  with a focus on theme. Most importantly, answer this question: What makes this a poem? Annotate and answer the question on the printed poem.

3. Common Human Emotions–Remember, at the end of class I wanted you to identify (to the best that you are able) the emotion with which you are most closely acquainted…good, bad, or in between.  All you have to do is identify that emotion. We will work with them a bit tomorrow.

1. Read and explicate Daddy.  Be sure to print out this poem and bring it to class.  Explicate the poem on the printed page.  More than any author thus far, the writer’s life (context) is key to fully understanding her work.
