1. Steppenwolf–Please use tonight to review your assigned room in the Magic Theater.

2. Term Final–Please print and review the guidelines. There are exemplars of Nausea and Steppenwolf essays as well as Insight Essays posted under the student work tab under Existentialism. Feel free to peruse but not to plagiarize.

Due 12/19: Steppenwolf

1. Steppenwolf–Read and annotate to p. 136 (stop at “And so I had sadly put out the light…”).

2. Prepare two discussion questions for Monday’s class. The questions should be rooted in the reading and should lead us to a probing discussion of the text. Consider possible points of discussion that we have not explored…

3. Also, I will set aside time at the beginning of class for questions for clarification.

Due 12/13: Steppenwolf

1. Steppenwolf–Read and annotate up to p. 93. Focus on:

  • Hesse’s development of the theme of propriety
  • Harry’s experience at the professor’s house
  • The woman at the bar!!!

1. Steppenwolf–Read up to p. 31. I just want you to briefly meet Harry tonight and I don’t want to get to far ahead of our discussion. So, please be prepared to explore the preface and tonight’s reading tomorrow.

Also, be prepared to discuss Nietzsche’s Of the Bestowing Virtue tomorrow.
