HW12C due 3/12: The Stranger

1. The Stranger–read and annotate the first two chapters!  While annotating, pay attention to Meursault’s characterization and the tone/mood of the opening chapter of the novel.

Reminder, the class readings are meant to (among other things) help inform our interpretation/understanding of all subsequent readings.

*Again, I only have 19 copies of The Stranger so, if you can, please buy a copy. This is the version we will read in class. 

HW12C due 3/5: The Myth of Sisyphus and Forum Response

1. Class Forum–Complete the response by midnight tonight. Be sure to bring the printed response in class!
2.  Read and annotate The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus in the Pack.
3. Over the weekend, print out, read and annotate the following sections on Albert Camus:

  • Nuptials and Camus’s Starting Point
  • Suicide, Absurdity, and Happiness: The Myth of Sisyphus
  • Criticism of Existentialists
  • Happiness in Accepting One’s Fate

1. The Stranger–Read and annotate Chapters 1 and 2 of Part II. Remember, you are expected to annotate everything we read this year. The readings are always subject to collection and grading.

2. Keep in mind, we are working toward our first essay of the term… So, ensure you are reading closely and come in ready to ask good questions.

HW12 due 9/29 (9/30 for 12G): The Stranger

1. The Stranger–Complete Part I of the novel. As usual, you should continue to annotate. Focus your annotations on questions and thematic observations (i.e. absurdity). Be prepared to demonstrate control of this novel during class discussions in the new week.
